"Come on Jeffrey" said Lyn, "we are off to London
tomorrow, I need to give you a brush and polish so that you look
your best for your public" Wonder if well meet the Queen I
thought! Up at the crack of dawn the next morning we set off to
catch the 7 o'clock train to Waterloo. It was a fantastic journey
and everyone seemed to think I was special and wanted to make a
fuss of me. No one seemed to mind a few dog hairs on their immaculate
suits or beautiful dresses.
I
treated them to one of my musical arias which everyone seemed
to appreciate! Waterloo station was
huge and full of people rushing here and there.but most of them
as we passed still seemed to find time to give me a pat and say
they would love to take me home with them. I began to get a bit
worried because I love it at the Sanctuary and feel quite safe
there, but Lyn reassured me and said I was not going anywhere...YET!!!
We
walked down to Waterloo Bridge and saw the Thames and then
made our way to the T.V.station to take part on the Paul O
Grady Show.
Ed Sudd met us and gave us a huge welcome and escorted us to
the "Green
Room", especially for dogs, I think. There were five other
dogs there from other rescue Centres and we all got on fine, as
dogs do. We made ourselves comfortable and then a little while
later we were ushered forward with our Human Celebrity Handlers
for a rehearsal - it went fine. Everyone said we were great and
brilliant, the things that humans say when they are pleased with
what we do.
We
then went back to the Green Room and Lyn took me to a lovely
little park just round the corner to stretch my legs.
Ed kept popping back to make sure we were all comfortable
and that our humans had enough to eat etc. They were all just
so kind and
thoughtful. Then we were called for the actual live performance.
I didn't feel nervous though because Lyn was just there behind
the scenery. Then our moment of fame was over, everyone congratulated
us and said that we had behaved impeccably and thanked us
again for coming. So we said our goodbyes to all the lovely
people we
had met there and that Lyn said had made it such a special
day for us and made our way back to Waterloo Station. By this
time
I had got used to the hustle and bustle but was looking forward
to getting back to the Sanctuary.
I
think I slept for most of the journey home but just before
we reached Bournemouth
a lovely lady
called Carol Bash came over and made such a fuss of me,
she couldn't take me home though, although she wanted to, because
she goes to
work everyday in London and I know that Lyn is very strict
about that. All the dogs at the Sanctuary crowded round when
we got home
and wanted to know where I had been and everything and
by
the time I had told them and had my supper I was exhausted
- its very tiring
being a T.V. star you know! Before she went to bed Lyn
gave me a hug and said that she was very proud of me, which
made
me feel
great, and then she said, " Now we wait for your special people
to come". She tells us all , as we arrive, that there is a
special human somewhere just for us - it just takes a bit of time
to get us together though she really does work hard at it. Thank
you Ed Sudd and all the people we met at the T.V. Studio for making
it a day we shall always remember.
Update from Jeffrey, June 2009
Hello again,
Jeffrey here just thought I would update you as to what has happened
to me
since
my appearance
on the Paul O"Grady
Show.
Lyn was unindated with offers of a home for me and in the process
of homechecking, which is done with much vigilance, met some lovely,
lovely people. Finally the decision was made and my Special people
came down to visit me, we bonded at once and arrangements were
made to collect me a few days later. Lyn never rushes things as
important as putting us into our new homes, they have to think
about it and make sure they could make the commitment to us. Unfortunately
the following day I was not feeling at all well and seemed to have
a bit of difficulty in putting my back legs in the right position
to move my body, very odd and it hurt too. Lyn took me to the Vet
who said it was something to do with my back being quite long,
which in Bassetts is true, and we then had to see a specialist
who said I had a slipped disc and an operation was the answer.
However, the surgeon at our Vets was of the opinion that if I could
have complete rest with painkilling drugs it was a better option.
Seven weeks later she was proved right and with the wonderful TLC
I have received here at the Sanctuary I was ready Lyn said to go
to my new home and the family who had waited so patiently for me
.
Today Sunday 7th June they came to take me and I will have
a home with them for the rest of my life. Liens right, for
every dog there
is a special person or family, it just takes a bit of patience
to get them together. I shall miss all my friends at the Sanctuary
especially Lyn and I will never forget her for giving me a chance,
but I now have what Lyn says is the right of every dog, a loving
and permanent home.YIPPEE!!!
