About
Lyn Williams
how it all started
Even as a young girl, Lyn Williams absolutely adored animals,
particularly dogs. As she grew, so did her love for them. At
the age of 12, her daily route to school took her past a house,
where there was a dog, always tied up and looked very scrawny.
It never had any water, there wasn't any shelter and therefore
exposed to all elements, with only the hard ground for it's bed.Even
on returning frequently at different times to check, it was always
there. She could stand it no longer! she sneaked in to the garden,
untied it and took it home with her.
You can keep the dog.... On her father's return from work that day, she suffered a severe
scolding and was taken back to the house, to return the dog.
Much to her father's amazement and Lyn's delight, the owner's
said they didn't really want the dog and she could keep it -
SHE DID! until the end of it's days.It seemed that this was the
real start, as she was continually finding herself looking after
dogs for people, sick animals were being brought to her and so
it continued. Even on meeting Ted, now her husband, who had a
very responsible job and continually travelled, having to remain
in some areas for as long as two or three years, even Ireland
on one occasion - but still Lyn found herself having stray or
abused dogs brought to her, tending their needs until a suitable
home for them was found. Eventually in the latter years, they moved to Ringwood, Hampshire.
At which point she was running a shelter for dogs, where she
also acquired, a few cats, geese, two donkeys, tortoises, parrots
and a few other animals that people didn't want. Now being more
settled and continually undertaking the sanctuary of animals,
she decided to form "Happy Dogs" the Charity, as it's
known now, approx 9 - 10 years ago. It was inevitable - the love
and understanding she had - and still has, for these animals,
that she has spent over fifty years of her life, selflessly and
tirelessly dedicated to making stray, unwanted
and often abused dogs in to "Happy Dogs"
