Milly
came into care early August 2007. Heavily pregnant and traumatized,
having been found with several others abandoned on the Dorchester
by pass, what their past experiences had been could only be
conjecture. Three days after her arrival, Milly gave birth to
five beautiful
puppies and though terribly timid and afraid, she allowed me
to help her and so we established a bond.
Being in the house
with all the other dogs, it became apparent she had been
used to being with other dogs – it was the humans she feared.
As the puppies grew, so did her confidence but I doubted I would
ever find a calm, gentle, quiet person who would have the compassion
to take her on. Having been “in dogs” for a long
time though, I am used to miracles and along came Bill Morgan.
It was almost as if she had been waiting for him and went straight
to sit by his feet. After a trial run of a few weeks (for both
their sakes) the adoption went through yesterday. Her confidence
grows daily and her fear of humans diminishes as the bond between
them grows.
I must say a big “thank you” to
all those wonderful people who commit themselves to a rescue dog
with all the baggage that comes with them. I wish Bill Morgan and
Milly many years of joy together and I thank him for being there.
